Tostones/ Patacones

I cooked this Tostones or Patacones last friday. I have been involved in a community allotment where international & local people from York get involved and just spend their free time, planting and just taking care of the produce. We have mexican chillies, chinese pak choi and so many other nationalities produce. It is a great project! So great a book & photo exhibition came out from it. I got requested to bring some nibbles from my country to the exhibition night and I decided to cook this lovely Tostones. They are simply twice fried green plantain with any topping you can think of. I made these with cheese & “Pink sauce”…. Result: delicious! Flew off the table!

Here’s The recipe (It will give about 20 tostones) :

  • 3 Green Plantains
  • ~2 cups of vegetable Oil
  • 1 cup of grated (white) cheese
  • Ketchup
  • Mayonnaise
  • Salt

Pre-heat the oil in a saucepan. In the mean time, peel the plantain and cut them diagonally. About 2cm-3cm? thick. Add a bit of salt and fry them for about 3-4 minutes. Take them out and flatten them out (I made this with a rolling pin). Once flatten, fry again until golden and toasty! Take them out of the oil, add a bit more of salt, top it with Cheese and add the sauce on top (Just mix mayo+ketchup in a bowl). Enjoy!

Cocine estos tostones o patacones ayer el viernes pasado. En los dos ultimos anios he estado involucrada en un jardin comunitario donde gente de la comunidad internacional como local esta involucrada. Se ha sembrado plantas de china a Mexico.Es un gran proyecto! De alli ha salido un libro y una exhibicion de fotos. Para la noche de la exhibicion me pidieron hacer algo de mi pais, asi que decidi hacer tostones o como en colombia se conocen como patacones. Decidi hacer eso porque me recuerda estar en la playa comiendolos. Tostones son platanos verdes que se frien dos veces y se le agrega cualquier aderezo, yo les puse queso y salsa rosada. Resultado: Volo! Que buenos!

Receta (Hace mas de 20 tostoncitos)

Ingredientes:

  • 3 Platanos verdes
  • ~2 tazas de aceite
  • 1 taza de queso rallado blanco
  • Ketchup
  • Mayonesa
  • Sal

Pre-calentar el aceite que has puesto en una olla profunda. Mientras tanto, pela los platanos y cortalos diagonalmente con un grosor de 2cm-3cm?. Agrega un poco de sal y frie por 4 minutos. Sacalos de la olla y aplanalos. Vuelvelos a freir hasta que los veas doraditos, sacalos y agregale un poco de sal. Para comerlos agregale el queso rallado y la salsa rosada! Disfruta!
